Not the best, I have to say the service has diminished over the past couple of years, the drivers are very good once they arrive, however the response times have been very unreliable of late, in my experience I waited for nearly two hours for a recovery vehicle, despite being broken down on a one lane A class road with the police in attendance as it was peak time traffic. After the reported profits the AA are in receipt of, I feel they would do well to re-direct some of this in the direction of there service to customers. As a long standing member of the AA, I am sorry to say that I will be moving to the RAC when my membership is up for renewal on the 28th September 2007.

My wife and I have used the AA on two occasions in the last three years and both times they've come up trumps.

The first callout was due to a hole in the radiator which caused all the coolant to spurt out and the engine to over-heat. The call out took nearly an hour because we broke down at a busy time but we were warned of that and the patrol arrived within their ETA. The lady at the call centre phoned us when the patrol was 15 mins away which was reassuring. When the patrol arrived he made a temporary repair to the radiator which not only got us going but lasted until we scrapped the car two years later!

The second time was a home start due to a flooded engine. The patrol came out within 20 mins, got the car started very quickly and told me how to avoid flooding the engine in future. He was very good humoured and diplomatic despite the fact that the call out was entirely my fault! (And no, he didn't use those exact words!)

Another thing I like about the AA is the fact that you can have joint membership for little more than the cost of single membership and that both of you are covered in any car.

I've had experience of the RAC in the past but the AA are head and shoulders above them, in my opinion.

When my scooter was about 18 months old, my battery started to malfuction and when away from home on a 3 day weekend break 180 miles from home. On the morning to return I found the said battery had "died" so I was fortunate to have AA cover. I made my call to the company. I gave my details over the phone and was told a patrol would be with me in an hour as it happens the van arrived in 40 mins,I explained the problem the man did various test's and said the answer is a new battery. So he made a couple of calls and we went to a motor factor store purchased the correct item (which I had to pay for)returned to vehicle installed tested. A quick boost from his box of tricks, press the starter button and away we go .Left the engine running while he did the paper work, from the time van arrived to departure about an hour. Excellent service would recommend to anyone with a vehicle whatever they drive. I will be rejoin the AA when 24 month cover expires..
